Passing the Torch: Transitioning Leadership

Picture3.jpg

Glen Roadknight (Executive Director, MCFCF), Vikki Buchner     (former Chair & ED, MCFCF), Ev. Dr. Charles Mulli (Founder & CEO, MCF), Amy MacDonald (Development Director, MCFCF), Michael Crane     (MCFCF Treasurer & Member of the Board).

MCFCF is growing, and with growth comes change.  It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to a great colleague and welcome another.  As of December 18, Vikki Buchner     stepped down from her role as Chair of the Board of Directors.  Vikki also served in the role of Executive Director and we are pleased to welcomed Glen Roadknight as MCFCF's new Executive Director.

Though it’s tough to lose a great leader and team member like Vikki, it’s also an exciting time for MCFCF as we welcome Glen, a leader with a different skill set that compliments the stage we are now in; looking forward to the next few years as we grow our capacity to engage more Canadians in the work of MCF in Kenya.

Farewell to Vikki Buchner

Vikki first got involved with MCF on a trip to Kenya with her friends Janine Maxwell (author of It’s Not Okay With Me and Vice President of Heart for Africa), and Maureen Kehler     (current MCFCF Chair of the Board) in 2004 and has been back every year since.

Vikki became an active part of the Hopes & Dreams team, a group of Canadians whoe were passionate about helping Charles and MCF.  Over time it became clear that in order to serve MCF on a committed level, a Canadian arm of MCF should be established.  Charles had been considering opening a Canadian office for a number of years and Vikki, Maureen and Michael Crane     were instrumental in making his dream a reality.  Thus, the Mully Children’s Family Charitable Foundation (MCFCF) was born.  Vikki also created and grew W.H.Y. Jewellery, purchasing jewellery made by the young women in Yatta and selling it in Canada as a vehicle to speak out about the plight of women affected by HIV/AIDS.  Vikki has sold thousands of dollars of jewellery at home parties, churches and schools, and has shared the MCF story with students at assemblies in schools across the York region and beyond.  She has also led teams to MCF and introduced MCF to a number of churches in the York Region.

Vikki made many personal sacrifices in her service of MCF, dropping everything when a phone call or email came in from someone wanting to know more about MCF.   Her heartfelt love of the children, her commitment and dedication will be missed.  Vikki will continue to be an active part of the MCFCF family here in Canada.

Welcome to Glen Roadknight

200908GlenAtMCF_edited-2.jpgGlen Roadknight joins the MCFCF team with a background in accounting and business management.  Glen worked for a Chartered Accounting firm in Markham from 1986 to 1998.  In 1998 Glen and his wife Barb moved to Kenya to work with Africa Inland Mission (AIM).  From 1998 to 2000 Glen worked as the Business Manager for Kapsowar Hospital in a rural part of northwest Kenya, while Barb, a registered nurse, worked as a nutritionist.  In 2001 Glen and Barb moved to the capital city of Nairobi to work with AIM’s logistical support service department which serves East and Central Africa countries.  During their 8 year tenure in Nairobi, Glen worked as the Finance Manager, Human Resources Manager, and Software Developer, while Barb worked in women’s ministry.

Glen and Barb joined MCFCF in October 2009 and together with their two kids live in Pickering, Ontario.

Glen and Barb had the opportunity to visit MCF this past summer and he left quite the impression with the children who now refer to him as "the tall mzungu who speaks Swahili" (mzungu = white man).  Glen's experience in Kenya and his finance and administration skills will be a great compliment to the MCFCF team.

Welcome to the family Glen, Barb and the whole Roadknight clan!
