Update from Charles Mulli
August 21, 2009
We have not yet received rain and the whole of our region is dry and dusty. There is a lot of hunger which is bringing great devastation in families. In the national parks, animals are dying and it is feared that many more will die if the rain does not come soon. Already, small scale farmers have lost cows, goats and sheep due to lack of grazing grass and shrubs for their livestock. There is rationing of electricity and water in all cities and towns in our country due to lack of enough water in the Hydro electricity dam supplies.
I am pleased to inform you that last week, we commenced the feeding program for the children from the surrounding communities. The program is catering for 1 year old to 17 year old children. Many of them have not been going to school due to the severe hunger that they have been facing. Over 1,000 children are getting a free hot lunch on a daily basis. The number continues to rise by the day.
I have also identified the very weak families in the area and I have put in place a plan to supply them with food beginning this week.
The supply of water is in place and there is a truck that we have hired to bring water to MCF Ndalani. Currently, the truck that we are in the process of purchasing is at the dealership where they are constructing the body of the same. It is scheduled to be ready within the next two weeks.
We have been able to supply a little water to some of the few vegetables that are in our farm with water that we have managed to draw from one pool along the river. This pool will last for the next 4 days after which all of our pools will run dry. The rest of our crops have already dried.
Preparations for our MCF choir team continue very well and I praise the Lord as things are moving on very well.
Yours in Christ,
Charles Mulli
